The Great All-Inclusive Debate

Fall is definitely in the air here in Chicago. Which, to me, means that bitter cold, ice, and wind are merely days away. Which means I’ll need to start wearing boots, multiple layers, scarves, hats, and keep extra hair grooming products hidden in the office. Which means that the winter blues should start setting in any minute now…

But I'm not going to let it win this year. This year, I've decided to beat it (or perhaps simply avoid it) by heading down to the islands in the South Pacific to work at a stunning island resort. Hey, just because I didn't win the contest for 'The Best Job in the World' doesn't mean I can't get a similar job on my own! http://www.islandreefjob.com/ What's better than waking up to the bright blue ocean water everyday and choosing amongst the various water activities (jet skiing, wind surfing, snorkeling, diving, cruising the Reef just to name a few!) Imagine getting a great work out with your paddle board session, and then heading off to the resort's restaurant and filling your belly with seasoned fruits, a fresh seafood salad, and a refreshing drink. Then catch a bit of shut eye with a quick nap on the beach before a leisurely evening hike to sunset. Dream come true right?

If you’re dreaming of escaping to your own warm-weather paradise, know that the South Pacific has an abundance of lovely islands and resorts of all levels of star ratings. The perfect one for you depends on what you prefer, such as water- or land-based activities, solitude or night life? Those questions are easy to answer for yourself, but a trickier one is whether to go with an all-inclusive plan, meal plan or accommodation only?

We all want to get the most bang for our buck, and we are often asked if all-inclusive resorts really worth it? The answer is yes. And no. You are going to get a lot more service and “inclusives” at a five-star property that has more to offer than a three-star property. Five-star resorts offer lush rooms, great decor, amazing service. Therefore, although there seems to be a great all-inclusive deal for $3,300 at a three-star resort, the $4,000 all-inclusive at a five-star resort might net you quite a bit more overall if you splurge for the experience!

Remember, though, that an all-inclusive may not work for everyone. If you plan on lazing at the pool all day, drinking cocktails, doing some light snorkeling (before drinking cocktails), then an all-inclusive may work. But if you plan on taking day tours every day and are departing before breakfast or gone during lunch, your all-inclusive meal plan may go to waste. And please keep in mind that tours often include a light meal or a bbq!

It's important to check out the details of an all-inclusive package. Some limit you to meals in a certain restaurant on the property, others might include multiple dining options. Certain activities may be complimentary in some packages, but not others. Also, always check out if alcohol is included in the all-inclusive price and if there are limitations on the type of alcohol that is included. Hey, afterall, you're on vacation...

In my search for the perfect resort this winter, I am definitely checking out activities as well! Although laying on the beach is good for a few days, I am planning on staying a little longer so I don't want to get bored. So definitely check out the range of activities the all-inclusive resorts offer. Otherwise, if you’re the restless type, you're going to being a paying a lot of money transferring to other locations that offer the things you like to do.
